Having a diverse ethnic population in my studio has allowed us to be exposed to the beauty of different cultural expressions. Our recitals are always followed by a pot-luck dinner where every family brings the best of the their country of origin's cuisine, and we often play a variety of music that reflects everyone's cultural roots. For this program we decided to go a bit deeper into our cultural roots, with every student and myself, doing a power-point presentation about our countries. We shared about the geography, the traditional architecture, foods and clothing, the fauna and the flora, languages spoken, traditional instruments, and obviously closed each presentation with a traditional piece of music played by the violin group. We even had a special participation from Mr. Paul Nunn on the drums! The countries represented in this wonderful journey were: Brazil, Hungary, India, Ireland and Scotland.
